TECHNOLOGICAL LITERACY THIS WEEK

There are a number of educational organizations, world-wide,
dedicated to the development of educational standards for
teaching technology to children. This week, we introduce you to
the International Technology Education Association (ITEA) and
its "Technology for All Americans" project.

The ITEA is a professional educational association devoted to
enhancing technology education through experiences in our
schools (K-12). Its membership encompasses individuals and
institutions throughout the world with the primary membership in
North America. You can learn about the ITEA in depth at the
official ITEA website: http://www.iteawww.org/

In 1994 the ITEA launched its Technology for All Americans
Project, a program intended to define and focus educational
efforts related to the teaching of technology to K-12 students.
Over the past 7 years an impressive body of work has been
developed from this project, culminating with the project's
"Standards for Technological Literacy" released in April of
2000. "Standards for Technological Literacy" is an impressive
work that provides, in great detail, a working road map for
educators working with K-12 students. As an educator in the
classroom, or home, these standards can help you quickly
identify the skills and concepts your students should be
acquiring.

Over the next few issues of this weekly newsletter we will
provide you with more information on these important standards.
Prepare your children for the brightest future possible by
integrating this information into your daily routine in some
fashion.

Until next week!
